How the hell do people who have shit for brains get ahead?

Ya gotta love people who demand minutia for the sake of spouting minutia to make themselves come across profoundly more knowledgeable than they are. Oh, wait. You don’t? Good. Because I’ve had about all I can take from the small-minded and weak-charactered lesser-demon we’re having to deal with. Although he’s gone through several names, I think we landed on ‘The Familiar,’ you know the wannabe vampires-witches-demons who metaphorically suck up to their evil, undead masters in the hopes of one day being allowed to be evil and undead themselves — but who never get there because they’re idiots.

I realize that today’s aggravation isn’t as big a deal as what several of my colleagues are having to undergo — I mean, I followed the Familiar’s template for the morning report and since there wasn’t much to report there wasn’t much to it. But evidently, I need to do a further report reporting on what was previously reported adding in recent reports of which there were few. This will be fun!

Thing is, everyone has to deal with, um, difficult people, but it’s a mystery to me how some dipshits bullshit their way into high-ranking positions at which they’re inept. I understand the Peter Principle, which states that people rise to their level of incompetence. But in this case, there’s no way in heaven (I mean, hey, maybe there is a way in hell) that this fool was ever good at any of this.

I did a little research because other than redoing the report in two hours I don’t have anything to do because everything I’m responsible for has been put on hold indefinitely (other than social media) because I’m “too autonomous,” like, how dare I get things done without being told. Anyway, I found this great article by Scott Berkun that pretty much sums up the psychology of these types, “Top ten reasons managers become assholes.”

In the case of this Familiar, reasons 2, 3, 4 and 5 seem to apply.

Ah, but while this addresses why people are assholes, it doesn’t really address how they manage to trick people into hiring them. I admit that other than not knowing anything about the institution (kinda a major red flag in retrospect) I thought this Familiar could be good and could catch on. Instead this individual wants to remake everything in its own imag(ination).

In any case, I’m off to wallow in minutia and if anyone has seen any research at all on how the hell people with shit for brains get ahead, I’d sure appreciate seeing it.
