On your way

Dez at the ranch
Dez a couple of months ago at the ranch.

Dez, you and your mom are on your way to live at the ranch for about four months. I’ll get to see you a couple times a month, and on the weekends I don’t get to see you I’ll work hard at getting the house fixed up.

We spoiled you rotten Saturday and yesterday. You loved your new truck book and especially your new front loader. When I gave you each, your eyes got really big and you said your signature, “Whoa!!!! Deet-dooo (thank you)!” You played in the water and we all laughed at the funny old white people at the free concert who can’t dance (knowing full well they’re probably your grandparents’ age).

Even if we hadn’t wanted to give you fun new toys just to spoil you, you deserved them. You worked hard on Saturday helping your grandpa clean off the decorative gray rocks and put them in the wheelbarrow to haul to the side yard. Lucky for you, you didn’t have to help me — I was cleaning up dog poop. Blech.

Speaking of your grandpa — and I’ll put this out there quietly for anyone else who stumbles upon this blog in the hopes they’ll send out good vibes — there’s an opening in a town near where you’ll be living. It would be a step up for him, more responsibility, and would allow him to be close to you and your mom, and his mom and dad, too. So, I’m praying this job is right for him (he’d have great benefits, etc., too) because I would feel so much better knowing he’d be there for you guys, and so would he.

See you in a couple weeks, buddy. This is a great adventure for you and your mom! But I miss you already.
