We watched Moneyball for our Wednesday Family Movie Night and although I thought it was rather compelling and I loved the strategy and finding the strength in small characters and the importance of a team and not each of its components, I evidently missed the point. I told my children that I thought it was sad that the main character could have been GM for the Red Sox, breaking the infamous “Curse of the Bambino,” and instead turned it down because of his loyalty to the Athletics, thus possibly denying himself a role in the Sox’s World Championship wins in 2004 against the Cards and 2007 against my beloved Rockies (hey, we were all just happy they got there!). Wrong takeaway. Evidently it was loyalty superceeds success or money? Um. One person can change the game? Maybe? Sometimes you’re too close to something to see the big picture? Closer? Give me a minute, I’ll come up with something. The more pressing questions might be what was up with Brad Pitt’s upper lip and Philip Seymour Hoffman’s eyebrows?
