My life as a breakfast smoothie

Many mornings I stand by our weary blender and watch through the glass as little by little the collection of spring greens, yogurt, berries, whey and water slowly twirl and mix near the bottom at first then, slowly, higher and higher. Depending on what berries I’ve used, the mixture turns darker pink or blue flecked with green as it rises, but in the meantime the top stays motionless save for a random bubble or two. I count down the final moments in my head as at last the force gains enough momentum to suck the soft, foamie upper layers down into a tornado. Independent matter is reduced to liquid at the hands of the blades, only to be spit furiously upward then back down for further assimilation. This isn’t about assimilation, though. It’s about the tornado that’s been roiling beneath me and the knowledge that I’d best buck up because this is about to get bad.
